On the occasion of World Olive Day, proclaimed three years ago by UNESCO, the International Olive Council (IOC) and the International Center for Advanced Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) did organize on November 23, 2023 in Madrid, on the sidelines of the IOC General Assembly, an event to recall the essential role of women in the olive sector.
In the presence of the Ministers of Agriculture of Jordan Mr. Khaled Hanifet and of Tunisia Mr. Abdel Moneim Balaati, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture of Spain Mr. Ernesto Abati, representatives of the COI and CIHEAM, of the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (Video) Mr. Nasser Kamel, delegations from producing countries, institutional partners and international women’s networks, the event was an opportunity to highlight women engaged in the olive world and to sign a Manifesto for “For better knowledge and recognition of the role of women in the olive world”.
The ceremony has bene chaired by Emmanuelle Dechelette, renowned olive oil sommelier and founder of the Olio Nuovo Days movement.
